Kimi Ni Todoke (From Me To You) is situated around a teenage girl, Sawako. In elementary school a child accidentally mistook her name for Sadako, and since then, everyone thought that that was her name. Due to this, she lost all of her friends.
The series starts when she moves up to high school, and she has no friends; everyone thinks that she summons demons, or is spiritual in some way, but really is not.
Eventually she somehow convinces two girls, Ayane and Chizu, that she is not whom everyone thinks she is, and they gradually form a friendship. At the same time, Sawako meets Kazehaya: the most popular guy in school. Everyone is obsessed with him, even the guys.
Sawako goes through a journey of friendship, first love and rivalry. The whole anime is sweet, fluffy and engaging for any age or gender.
This anime was definitely one of my favourites, even though I may be male. The friendship is cute, and I find the whole series satisfying and relatable. The characters are logical in terms of reality; such as they have regular coloured hair for Japan, and not highly conspicuous coloured hair like pinks or greens, or even blues.
The series is two seasons long in the whole, with 24 episodes in the first and 12 in the second. The first is mainly introducing the characters and starting relationships, along with Sawako's rivalry, whilst the second season is focused on the romance between the protagonist and Kazehaya.
This anime is very similar to another, Say I Love You. Say I Love You is like a quicker version of this anime, with the same aspect of the friendship and the rivalry, except the rival comes much quicker, as in the second or third episode, and the romance starts only in episode two at the max. I preffered Kimi Ni Todoke to Say I Love you, mostly because of the tempo that the relationships form. Say I Love You was too quick for my liking.
I really recommend this show to anyone in need of a slow, or soft and fluffy romance or hardship anime. I do warn that this anime does not involve any kissing, if that is what you are looking for, so do not watch this anime. If you want kissing, try Say I Love You, or email me and I'll recommend some good romance animes for you. This series only extends to an intimate hug and two almost-kisses, but that's as far as they get; I apologise.
All in all, I loved this anime. I wasn't too interested in the romance section of it, but I must admit that what there was, I enjoyed fully. I had watched Say I Love You after I watched this one and found the resemblance uncanny, so I do recommend both.
