Hunter X Hunter started off with a small boy named Gon. His father was an expert Hunter; but had left him when he was young to live with his aunt. When Gon turned twelve he was the legal age of taking the Hunter exam: a test to see if you are suited to become a Hunter; to which he meets his new friends Killua, Kurapika and Leorio.

The show is broken into eight whole arcs, like seasons in anime. The amount of episodes in the entire series are 148. Some arcs are longer than others - such as how the "Zoldyck family arc" is only five episodes, and the "Chimera ant arc" is sixty-one episodes - so it would not be natural to label them as seasons.

Some of the arcs are based mostly on other characters beside Gon, even though he is the protagonist, so it changes perspective on who the main character is throughout the series.

There are two versions of this anime, one, which was created in 1999, and one remade in 2011. The first version was dark and creepy looking, and a little new, whilst te 2011 version was a little more colourful and based off the manga. A lot prefer the '99 version due to nostalgia of watching it as a child, but a lot more, including I, prefer '11 because of the new animation style and more plot, along with a lot more characters.

The anime is a little slow and hard to understand at points, but they gradually explain everything clearly. A lot of people I know think that there are too many points in which they explain strategic circumstances of their situations, but I believe that it gives more detail and description to the battles and tournaments that the characters particapate in.

Overall I really do recommend this anime for anyone that is interested in deep plot kind of animes, or shows that include a lot of action like Naruto or Dragonball Z. Definitely one of my favourites.
